Handover at arrivals
Batumi puts you on the Black Sea coast the moment you land, with the coast road running north and the Adjaran mountains climbing away behind the city.
The owner of the car you booked meets your flight at arrivals and takes the keys back at the airport on your way home. It is the one airport in Georgia where an open roof is a serious suggestion rather than a joke.
Choose the car and the dates. Your flight number can go straight into the comments field when you make the booking.
The owner is waiting in arrivals when you come through, with the car and the keys. They have your flight number, so a delay simply moves the handover.
On your departure day the car goes back to the airport rather than to an office in town, so the last morning is a short drive instead of a logistics problem. If another drop-off point suits you better, agree it with the owner when you book.
Every car below can be collected at the airport. Prices are per day in lari, and each listing carries its own deposit and cancellation terms.
Two very different drives start at this airport: the flat coast road running north, and the climb east into Adjara, where the surface and the scenery both change quickly.
| Destination | Distance | Drive time | Road |
|---|---|---|---|
| Batumi city centreA short run up the coast into the city. | 6 km | 15 min | Main highway |
| Mestia (Svaneti)North then inland, climbing into the high Caucasus. | 265 km | 330 min | Mountain road |
| KutaisiNorth-east away from the coast, on good main road. | 125 km | 120 min | Main highway |
| TbilisiThe long run east across the country to the capital. | 370 km | 330 min | Motorway |
| Goderdzi PassEast into Adjara over a high pass. Seasonal, and slow when it is open. | 105 km | 190 min | Mountain road |
| KobuletiStraight up the coast road, past the beaches north of the city. | 34 km | 40 min | Main highway |
Drive times assume normal conditions and no stops. Mountain routes take longer in winter, and some of them close for part of the year — check the road before you set off.
All-wheel or four-wheel drive, on winter tyres. These are the cars worth taking on the routes marked as mountain roads above.
None of this is specific to the airport — it's what changes the moment you leave the car park, wherever in Georgia you're headed.
Batumi itself is walkable and well served. The case for a car is everything outside it — the beaches north, the pass east, and the fact that none of it runs to a timetable.
The usual options
Airport taxi
Around 15 to 25 GEL to the city centre, 10 to 15 minutes.
Bolt
Around 10 to 18 GEL, 10 to 15 minutes.
Bus
City bus 9 or 10, 1 GEL by contactless card, 15 to 20 minutes.
Renting with Trentro
In the arrivals area, from the owner of the car itself. There is no rental counter to queue at and no shuttle to an off-airport lot. The exact meeting point is confirmed with you once the booking is made.
Add your flight number when you book and the owner tracks it. The handover moves to your actual arrival time — a delay does not cost you the car.
Yes. The car comes back to the airport on your departure day and the keys are handed over there, rather than at an office in the city.
It is the one part of Georgia where it genuinely makes sense — the coast road is flat, open and right beside the sea. Look for the Convertible category, and bear in mind that open cars are the first thing to go over the summer.
Not for Batumi, Kobuleti or the run to Kutaisi. If you are going east over Goderdzi, or north into Svaneti, then all-wheel or four-wheel drive on winter tyres is the right call, and the strip above shows only cars that have both.
Lari. That is what you are charged in and what every listed price means. You can display dollars or euros to compare, but the charge itself is in lari.
That is set by each car's owner rather than by us. The listing states whether a deposit is needed, and how much, before you book — and some cars ask for none at all.
As early as you can. Batumi is a summer destination and the coast fills up, so the choice in July and August is considerably narrower than it looks in March. Booking ahead also means the price is fixed in lari before the season pushes it.
