Handover at arrivals
Kutaisi is the gateway to western Georgia and to the mountain roads that run north from it.
There is no rental desk here to queue at: the owner of the car you booked meets your flight, hands the keys over in arrivals, and takes them back at the same place on the day you fly out. If you are heading up into the high country, filter for four-wheel drive and winter tyres before you book.
Choose your car and your dates. Your flight number can go straight into the comments field when you make the booking.
When you land, the owner is waiting in the arrivals area with the car. They have your flight number, so a delay moves the handover rather than losing it.
On your way home you bring the car back to the airport and hand the keys over there, so the last morning needs no detour into Kutaisi. If another drop-off point suits you better, agree it with the owner when you book.
Every car below can be collected at the airport. Prices are per day in lari, and each listing carries its own deposit and cancellation terms.
Kutaisi sits within reach of both the Black Sea and the high Caucasus, which is what makes it a useful place to start a trip rather than just to land.
| Destination | Distance | Drive time | Road |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mestia (Svaneti)The climb into Svaneti. Slow, high, and the reason a lot of people fly into Kutaisi at all. | 213 km | 240 min | Mountain road |
| BatumiWest to the coast, on good road most of the way. | 121 km | 105 min | Main highway |
| TbilisiEast along the main east–west corridor to the capital. | 230 km | 180 min | Motorway |
| BorjomiSouth into the forested river valley and the national park beyond it. | 143 km | 135 min | Mixed roads |
| Kutaisi city centreThe short run into town, if you are staying the first night locally. | 22 km | 30 min | Main highway |
| RachaNorth-east into a quieter, higher region with rougher road as you go. | 102 km | 110 min | Mountain road |
Drive times assume normal conditions and no stops. Mountain routes take longer in winter, and some of them close for part of the year — check the road before you set off.
All-wheel or four-wheel drive, on winter tyres. These are the cars worth taking on the routes marked as mountain roads above.
None of this is specific to the airport — it's what changes the moment you leave the car park, wherever in Georgia you're headed.
A taxi solves the first half hour. If your plan involves anywhere beyond Kutaisi itself, it is worth working out what the rest of the week costs before you decide at the exit door.
The usual options
Airport taxi

Bus
The Georgian Bus shuttle or local transport, 5 to 10 GEL, 30 to 40 minutes.
Renting with Trentro
Yes. The owner meets your flight in the arrivals area and hands the keys over there, so there is no desk to find and no shuttle to an off-airport car park. The exact spot is confirmed with you once the booking is made.
Give us your flight number when you book and the owner follows it. A delay moves the handover to your new arrival time; it does not cost you the booking.
Yes, and that is the normal way a rental here ends. You bring the car back to the airport on your departure day and hand the keys over, rather than driving into Kutaisi to return it.
For the road to Mestia or up into Racha it is worth having, and winter tyres matter from late autumn onwards. For Batumi, Tbilisi or Borjomi an ordinary car is fine. The strip further up this page shows only cars with all-wheel or four-wheel drive on winter tyres.
Lari. That is the currency you are charged in and what the price on every listing means. You can switch the display to dollars or euros to help you compare, but the charge itself stays in lari.
It depends on the car. Each owner sets their own, and the listing tells you whether one is required and how much before you book. Some cars carry no deposit at all.
Many of the cars here can be cancelled free of charge, and those listings carry a free-cancellation badge. The terms for a particular car are shown on its page before you pay.
